Hardware I use!
Main Computer
Please note that I recently updated my desktop, so this screenshot is a bit outdated and I'm too lazy to update this lol.
- AMD Ryzen 5 5600G
- 16GB DDR4
- 1TB Crucial P2 M.2 SSD
- NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060
- Arch Linux
If you're wondering why I have an NVIDIA GPU despite being a Linux user:
- I had to use my RX 580 for a customer's PC build because the GPU I ordered for that PC arrived dead and I wanted to save time.
- This 2060 previously belonged to my friend and he sold me it for a great price (thank you if you're reading this :)
- Even though I don't like NVIDIA, there are some advantages to using an NVIDIA card on Linux. Most notably, NVENC hardware acceleration (useful for programs like OBS and DaVinci Resolve).
Laptop
I use a ThinkPad X220 (i5-2520M model with 8GB of RAM) running Linux Mint. Despite its age there are a lot of things I like about this laptop:
- It can run Coreboot
- Despite being a small laptop, it can accommodate both an mSATA and a 2.5 inch HDD/SSD
- It can run many Operating Systems, which is handy as it's nice to test things on bare metal. In addition to Linux, I've gotten this thing to run Windows 11, Windows XP, FreeBSD, and I think some people have even Hackintoshed these things.
The only thing I don't about the laptop is the lack of USB 3.0. Battery life is also not great, but I can probably buy a cheap replacement on ebay lol.
Server
I use a Quartz64 Model A Single-Board Computer running Debian. I previously used a HP Z600 Workstation running Proxmox, but decided to downgrade because of power efficiency and because I don't need a beefy hypervisor just to run Nextcloud, Jellyfin, CUPS, Pi-Hole, Wireguard, and a Network File Share.
Peripherals
To record my audio, I use a Blue Snowball Ice. It's cheap as chips, but it's a rock-solid USB microphone.
For my mouse, I use the same Logitech G203 I was using several years ago.
For my keyboard, I use a Dell AT102W. A beautiful, mechanical relic from the late 90s.
I use an AOC 24 inch 144Hz monitor, although since I'm not a huge gamer anymore, I'm looking at buying some kind of "small" (around 29 inch) ultrawide with good colour accuracy.
